The Woody Woodpecker Logo was designed by Walter Lantz, the creator of Woody Woodpecker. He was a friend of one of the adult leaders in the squadron, and he designed the logo for the Squadron. The Wright Flyer in the logo and the “Kitty Hawk Squadron ” comes from the official date of the start of Squadron 3 which occurred on December 17th, 1953 which is Kitty Hawk day, the 50th anniversary day of the Wright Brothers first flight.
Co-founder Max Mahan had something to do with this, I remember seeing some of the original art work that Max had, and he was involved with production of the decals.
